Frequently Asked Questions

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on therapy that focuses on the craniosacral system, which is made up of the bones of the skull, spine, and pelvis, the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that flows through these structures.

CST practitioners believe that the craniosacral system is a fluidic system, meaning that it is constantly moving and changing. They also believe that this system is connected to the rest of the body and that any restrictions or blockages in the craniosacral system can affect the entire body, and any restrictions in the entire body can affect the craniosacral system.

CST practitioners use a light touch to assess and release restrictions affecting the craniosacral system. They may also use gentle pressure to help the bones of the skull, spine, ribs, and pelvis move more freely. It is a whole-body, whole-person approach that relieves pain and promotes healing.

What is Tensegrity Medicine?

Tensegrity Medicine is a type of bodywork that uses gentle pressure to release tension in the fascia, the web of connective tissue that surrounds, supports, interweaves, and penetrates our muscles, bones, and organs. It is based on the principle of tensegrity, which is a structural principle found in nature and in the human body.

Tensegrity systems are made up of a series of interconnected elements (eg. fascia) that are held in tension by compression elements (eg. bones). This creates a stable and balanced structure that is able to withstand stress. Tensegrity Medicine practitioners believe that the human body is a tensegrity system, and that any restrictions or imbalances in the fascia can lead to pain and dysfunction.

By releasing tension in the fascia, Tensegrity Medicine practitioners can help to relieve pain while restoring balance and function to the body.

What are "Body-Mind" or "Somatic" therapies?

"Body-mind" or "somatic" therapies are types of therapies that promote body-mind connection. Both Craniosacral Therapy and Tensegrity Medicine are body-mind therapies. They are based on the concept that our physical and emotional states are interconnected and cannot be separated. Therefore, during a session, therapists might support this connection through conversation, guided imagery, and other techniques.

How can Craniosacral Therapy and Tensegrity Medicine help me?

Craniosacral Therapy and Tensegrity Medicine help with many impairments, including migraines, headaches, spine pain, joint pain, stress, anxiety, jaw dysfunction, post-surgical pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, scoliosis, brain injury, concussions, and more.  They allow for pain-free movement with improved muscle balance, flexibility, posture, and body-mind wellness.

What is a session like at Craniosacral Therapy and Wellness?

Target & Treat, Rest & Restore with Sara: The session will begin with a review of your concerns and medical history.  Sara will then evaluate specific areas of the body using testing techniques and hand placements that help identify restrictions.  Individuals then lie on the treatment table in comfortable clothing while the fascia release techniques are performed. Self-leadership coaching to facilitate body-mind connection is incorporated when needed.  The session is finished with integrative movement.  Sessions are approximately 90-minutes.

Rest & Restore with Rachel: The session will begin with a review of your primary concerns. Individuals then lie on the treatment table in comfortable clothing while Rachel evaluates specific areas of the body using Craniosacral Therapy hand placements. This evaluation will help Rachel identify which areas to focus on while she completes a comprehensive Craniosacral Therapy session. Sessions are approximately 90-minutes.

What can I expect for outcomes?

Craniosacral Therapy and Tensegrity Medicine help reduce pain, improve mobility, and facilitate body-mind connection, all of which promote health and a better quality of life.

What are your rates?

All sessions are approximately 90 minutes.
Sessions with Sara:
-Individual Sessions: $179 per session.
-Multiple Session Packages: $169 per session for 4 or more sessions.
Sessions with Rachel:
-Individual sessions: $120 per session.

How many sessions will I need?

Clients typically benefit from 8 to 16 sessions and then reduce their frequency as needed. It is important to note that--although we always recommend trying a session to see how it feels--one session is usually not enough to address all of the complex layers of the body.  You will most likely need more than one session to achieve your goals.  Our goal is to get you feeling better so you don't need us anymore.

Do you take insurance?

Because Craniosacral Therapy and Wellness is a health and wellness clinic with a focus on fascial evaluation and treatment, it is not covered by health insurance. Therefore, we accept payment at the time of service and are unable to file insurance claims.
